What is a Wedding Coach, When to Hire a Wedding Coach, and 12 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Wedding Coach

As the coaching industry continues to grow bigger and bigger, niches within the coaching industry are taking definitive shape and creating their own space in this larger arena of coaching. One of these niches in coaching is relationship coaching. I encourage you to check out my prior blog posts to learn more about relationship coaching and its many benefits. I’ve also written about premarital coaching and the benefits of hiring a premarital coach. Coaching is a growing industry for a reason - there are so many benefits and it allows the client to discover the answer for themselves while supporting the client with new tools and skills that can be applied to any area of their life - not just the area they are receiving coaching in.

Today, we’ll be exploring the wedding coach niche: what is a Wedding Coach, why and when you should hire a Wedding Coach, and what the benefits of hiring a Wedding Coach are. A Wedding Coach is a life coach who specializes in essentially all things “wedding”. A Wedding Coach is someone who is solely focused on supporting the client - the bride, the groom, or both, depending on the contract. A Wedding Coach can help you navigate difficult family relationships, create wedding timelines, meet those deadlines consistently, will teach new tools and skills around healthy communication, stress, and effectively managing overwhelm, while regularly checking in on the client (most often the bride), to ensure she is feeling supported, successful, and enjoying the wedding planning process rather than dreading it or allowing stress and overwhelm to create a toxic mindset about wedding planning.

A Wedding Coach is not a wedding planner or wedding coordinator. A Wedding Coach will not be on site for the day of the wedding. In fact, you will probably never meet with a Wedding Coach in person. All coaching sessions will occur remotely via phone or the Internet (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.) Depending on the training and personal preference of the Wedding Coach, Wedding Coaches can be advisors and consultants for the client during the months and weeks leading up to the wedding. Wedding Coaches help clients create SMART goals during the wedding planning process. SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable/achievable, realistic, and timely goals. These SMART goals help the bride to better manage her stress and overwhelm while staying on track with wedding planning timelines and deadlines. A Wedding Coach will help the client achieve the desired outcomes discussed for the wedding day.

12 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Wedding Coach:

  1. Wedding Coaches share what to expect during the wedding planning process.

  2. Wedding Coaches discuss and help clients develop financial strategies around the wedding budget.

  3. Wedding Coaches help the client(s) set clear, definitive outcomes and goals for the wedding process and wedding day.

  4. Wedding Coaches discuss and prepare the client regarding the logistics of the wedding and discuss a desired timeline and flow for the wedding day.

  5. Wedding Coaches teach conflict management and resolution skills and tools to the client to better support the client in navigating cultural traditions and family expectations throughout the wedding planning process.

  6. Wedding Coaches help the client create a deeper sense of confidence and awareness around their personal desires for their wedding day.

  7. Wedding Coaches teach the client emotional intelligence skills and provide a space for the client to practice these tools.

  8. Wedding Coaches coach the client around creating SMART goals and timelines that work for them and their wedding day.

  9. Wedding Coaches can brainstorm with the client for creative decor ideas and details while creating an efficient organization system for these ideas.

  10. Wedding Coaches may provide guidance through the wedding process when needed including the management of vendors and logistics for the wedding day.

  11. Wedding Coaches help clients learn skills and tools to effectively manage stress and overwhelm throughout the wedding planning process.

  12. Wedding Coaches encourage the client’s romantic life throughout the wedding planning process and encourage the client to remember why they are getting married in the first place - because they fell in love with their partner and want to spend the rest of their lives together. (Don’t let the wedding process stop you from continuing to date and enjoy your partner!)

Wedding Coaches help brides and grooms manage their stress and overwhelm around wedding planning while finding more enjoyment in the process and on the actual wedding day. The best time to hire a Wedding Coach is eight to twelve months before your wedding. This will ensure you have a Wedding Coach for the majority of the wedding planning while also giving you and your future spouse ample time to work with a life coach. Many of the tools and skills taught by a Wedding Coach can be retained and applied to other areas of your life and you may see improvement in your romantic relationship as well as familial relationships and friendships once you start applying these newly learned tools and skills to your life.

When considering hiring a Wedding Coach, make sure this works with your budget and that you connect with the coach.
